Looks like a shuttle design similar to that which was used on the Kelvin in the first movie; much more TOS-like than what they used later in the film.

(One minor nit -- rust!? This here is Trek son, not Wars.)

Pretty shoddy maintenance work if they're letting their shuttles get all rusty.

But then, these are the same bozos who think a proper phaser should be all scuffed up and scratched to look "real". I'd like to see R. Lee Ermey cut loose on a bunch of alleged Starfleet types sporting those dinged up phasers.

Just imagine the opening scene in "Full Metal Jacket" with a Star Trek twist...

You know it's sad when James Cawley and the Phase II folks make doing the sets and props look so great, I wish J.J. Abrams would take some lessons on how to do Classic Trek right.

Because of course, it is impossible to tell an original story with a character who has already appeared in one TV episode and one feature film.

And of course we know the only way you can be original is to use a different character.

And we of course know the original series never recycled old plots. We only got 100% original stories like "Balance of Terror" or "The Galileo Seven."

This sounds really exciting with several areas I'd like to see expanded upon. Khan is probably the most famous advisary of Kirks in the history of ST lore and the Klingons are excellent as well! Plus the return of TOS Spock!

Perhaps the Klingons will discover the Botany Bay and release Khan and the superhumans to wage a two front war on the Federation. Also an excellent plan for getting "spys" on the Enterprise as in TOS.

Perhaps Spock will factor in against the Klingons! I'd hope upon hope they can include the amazing Gary Seven and Aegis to aid in combat against Khan. There is so much material to work with and expand on!

I'd say things are looking up for fans of the Star Trek franchise. They almost killed it off with those awfull TNG movies.

I'm generally an optimist about such things, but I hate to say I'm not thrilled by this news. I had hoped to not only see new adventures but try to not be too tied down by things that occurred before. I love Khan, but did we have to dip in that well again? It's kind of like certain items that Trek can't seem to get past. "What, time travel AGAIN?"

I know I'll see it and I'm sure they will have an original spin on the character, but still...

Khan is only famous primarily because of "The Wrath Of Khan." He was only one of several different adversaries in TOS. The Klingons because they were done to death in the films and even moreso in TNG and DS9.

The first film was nothing but playing to every dumb cliche expected. And it was mindless. Why should the sequel be any different?

I for one, have no problem seeing a retelling of characters I cared about from TOS being brought back and reexamined on the big screen with a big budget.

As said elsewhere, Superman has his Lex, Batman has his Joker, and Kirk has his Khan! AP calls Khan the greatest SciFi villian of all time and Khan was ranked 10 th greatest screen villian of all time. So its a no brainer to bring Khan back and explore him further.

It has been said that Khan is the mirror image of Kirk and Wrath of Khan is called the best of all the ST movies. IMO nobody really cares for the more cerebral thinking ST villian (like Vger) in ST TMP even if they claim they do.

Each time the story can be told better I think! For example, Kirk hasn't even stranded Khan on Ceti Alpha V. Theres new reasons for Khan to plot against mankind.

I'm sure JJ Abrams won't let us down. He realizes the fate of the ST Franchise rests in his hands. He's a fan and he's not a stupid man. Have faith.

And THIS is the thing I simply cannot comprehend. Because we didn't get those characters. What we got were cardboard, one dimensional cliches of our heroes. Whenever someone says something along the lines of the above one question always blazes through my mind:

What movie did you see because it sure as hell wasn't the one I saw?

He already has.

I can't have faith in someone who so obviously has so little respect for the source materiel that he even openly admits wanting to make it more like another franchise: Star Wars. To me he has already proven himself to be a derivative hack. He fingered the M.I. franchise, now he's doing the same to Trek.
