The front axle must have had a narrow enough track to make up for it.
Those early '50s bathtub Nashs' had very low front wheel arches too.

You thinking of that fairly well known pic of it with it's red paint job for "It Started With a Kiss"?
I thought the Futura languished outside of Barris's shop mostly.
Looking like an old used car with faded paint and no hub caps.

Could have been either scenario being the Barris worked closely with both FoMoCo and Hollywood.

I was talking with a mechanic who owns a shop on the CT shoreline. He specializes in classic car mechanical work. He said that those Nashes were poorly designed and that the front wheels did hit the fenders if turned sharp enough - this coming from a struggling manufacturer that couldn't afford to make mistakes like that.

Yeah, I probably am referring to that photo you mentioned. Same Bat Time, same Bat Channel!!

Guess it was "fashion before function" on those Nashes.
Pretty silly design flaw. Neat cars though, but the orphan makes never had a chance
what with Big Three dealers telling their salesmen to talk smack about them.
Or so I have heard.

Just read it was sold to Barris for one dollar due to it having no title making it uninsurable.

There it sat behind his shop for several years.

I'm assuming/guessing it was still owned by Ford when it was a co-star in that movie around '59 or '60.
Ford had no use for it. Probably went right to Barris after that.

Also just learned it's frame was derived from the Continental Mark II.

Master customizer Bill Cushenberry was the mastermind behind the customization.
Last I heard, I saw him chopping a top in a rat rod type magazine a few years ago.
He was quite old but still very able.
