I really enjoy these threads for the other brands and have wondered why there wasn't one here. Maybe someone just needs to start it? I'll start (with my apologies if this isn't your 'cup of tea') - with my latest JL acquisition -

Make mine red, like the one I used to own! I admit it - I used to own a bright red 1976 AMC Pacer. A stripped-down, zero option base model: Straight-6, 3-on-the-tree, no a/c, manual steering, brakes, windows and locks, etc. My folks bought the car new, and my dad had the dealer put an AM/FM mono radio in it so my mom would have something to listen to. They bought the car in November of 1977, after the '78 models were already out, so you know just how "Left Over" this puppy was. When they went to trade it in 7 years later, the local Chevy agency only offered $50 for it. Since we needed a second car at the time, they gave it to us instead of taking the trade-in money for it.

I've seen this casting in a couple of different colors, but the yellow is a new one for me. Did they ever make a red one?

The answer to that question is yes and no. The Pacer casting was originally a Racing Champion casting with an opening hood (the hood opens the wrong way) and JL brought the casting in its line up with the hood casted shut but not in red. RC did make a red version of the AMC Pacer. I have a not so good carded pic. Its has been liberated since then and I don't have a loose pick to show you at this time.

Since that was not a official Johnny Lightning car in a Johnny Lightning thread, I will post another pic of a good looking AMC car even though some say I might be alittle blind....lol

Thanks for the R.C. Pacer photo. I never realized it was the same casting that J.L. used. I think I have one of those somewhere. Some time I'll haveto get some of my favorite J.L's together and shoot them for this thread. I'm by no means a major collector - I just look at them when I'm in the store and cherry-pick the ones I like. I also went through a "Hearse" phase a few years ago, so I have a number of those too. Many of the ones I have are the Corvairs from several years ago, of course. Can anyone enlighten me as to the unusual variations of tha particular model other than white ad blue coupes, and maroon and light green convertibles with two varieties of wheels each? (I know they said they were 1962 and 1963 model years, but that was just a tampo-printed trim variation)

(Does this mean that the R.C. Corvair coupes from the late 1990's could be related to the J.L.'s too? I never considered the possibility, so I never really looked closely enough at them side-by-side to tell for myself... )

I know few of the old RC castings made it into the JL line up but I do not all of them that did. So, I am not sure about the Corvair. Wyatt has a great site that has most all of the JL databased. That would be a great place start for any of the JL castings but here is a link to the Corvairs. http://www.jlcollector.net/914.html

Take some pics. We like pics especially in a thread like this one. :D

As always, thanks for the great info, Mac. WOW! Licensing really gets that specific?? So a different license would be needed to do second gen Corvairs. I'd buy 'em. And I know there are a lot of collectors who would love to see the Rampside pickup done (as well as the van).

Ditto, ditto, and even more DITTO! Yes, they could do not only a '64 version on the same tool, but a proper '61 coupe as well (The convertible didn't debut until 1962). I don't see why they don't do a top-up version of the convertible - after all, hasn't JL done that with top-down convertibles in the past? I have a couple of the Zingers too, I just forgot about them when I was listing the "Regular" ones I have. But yeah, let's get a petition going to get them to bring out MORE CORVAIRS! Late models, pickups, vans, and how about a '61 or '62 station wagon while we're at it... Hey, I can dream, can't I? :D
